Hi Caimin, the nearest one to you is probably Castelo de Bode which is around 17k away from Tomar. This water probably holds the bigger fish but 'snaggy'. After that you have....
PATUDOS = 40 kilometers
CABRIL = 42 kilometers
Sao Domingos = 67 kilometers
Not too sure on what the fishing is like at Patudos as iv'e never fished it. Naturally i fish the Sao domingos quite often as it's on my door step. Lots of small fish from 1kilo to 3 kilo but have had fish to 8 kilo here.

thanks for the tip.i am looking forward to finding the good spots,although i suspect prebaiting will bring them to the shore in most places.if you live in portugal maybe we can do a day together sometime.i will probably concentrate on the bass and barbel in the summer.(anyone know where the barble hide around tomar)as the kids will be fishing also.i will however be coming in the winter months to target cats and carp with a friend.any advice would be greatly appreciated.i have attached a picture of the lake close to the house.
thanks again, caimin.

Good night, probably Castelo de Bode near Tomar is where the biggest portuguese carp swims.
There is common carp there carp with 20 kg, 30 kg and more but its a large water with a lot natural food, Crayfish, mussel, etc and its no easy get a runs there, but it is a beautiful place, wild, wild.
Other record fish that you can find there is barbus comizo with 10, 15 kg but its very difficult to find them.
Cabril its a place that is easier get runs but the carp small than Castelo de Bode but there is big Carp there too.

regards

thanks for the advice,i am looking forward to spending time looking for the big ones.i have been on some french waters where the runs are scarce but the rewards are good.is there a local product like maize that can be brought in bulk for prebaiting.
