As a boy my father tried his best to take me out fishing nearly every opportunity he had and I loved it. I joined my first ‘fishing club’ at the age of 14, ‘Leigh Osprey’s’ and fished canal upon canal and won match upon match. I then entered my first ‘open match’ for juniors at 15, on the Leeds & Liverpool canal and had a guy called ‘Kevin Ashurst’ drop by and have a few words. He was clearly impressed with what he had heard as I landed my 6th 3lb ‘Tinca Tinca’ from the margins.

I came fifth in that match out of 150 other Anglers; to say I was an ecstatic 15yr old is an understatement. ..................................................read more
